Chai Spiced Oatmeal

December 20, 2018 By pooja712 Leave a Comment

Since the weather lately has led to me stepping on a cold kitchen floor in the morning, I’m back to wanting to make a hot breakfast! This simple yet amazing chai spiced oatmeal is the perfect way to warm myself and Amaris up. It also keeps us nice and full long enough to get a nice amount of time playing outside! This oatmeal is super simple and delivers so big on flavor! I can’t wait to hear what you think of it!

This oatmeal gets it flavor from my favorite combination of “chai” spices: cinnamon, clove or allspice, cardamom, and vanilla. This combination is not an authentic Indian masala chai flavor, because I just love Americanized “chai” that’s heavy on vanilla.

Bring water to a boil and add in oats, maple syrup to sweeten and all the spices. Bring everything back to a boil and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the oatmeal reaches your desired thickness. It does thicken up a bit upon cooling!

That’s it, and it’s ready to serve! I hope the warmth of the oatmeal and the warmth of the spices give you cozy and snuggly feelings! Please leave a comment below to share your thoughts and variations; I love to hear from you!

Warm yourselves up with this delicious chai spiced oatmeal!
Author: Pooja Haney
Ingredients
  • 1 cup old fashioned oats
  • 2 cups water*
  • 3-4 tbsp maple syrup
  • ¼ tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1.5 tsp vanilla
  • ¼ tsp cardamom
  • 1 tiny pinch allspice (it's very strong)
Instructions
  1. Bring water to a boil
  2. Add in oats, salt, maple syrup, and all the spices
  3. bring back to a boil and simmer on medium heat until thickened to your liking, stirring occasionally so it doesn't stick to the bottom of the pot
Notes
The water amount depends on how you like your oats. If you like them very thick and with a bite you can use a little less. If you like your oats very soft and porridge-y then use an extra cup of water.
